Areas of Study

  • A Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) can work in many careers. Unlike other certification programs, the Microsoft Office Specialist program is not just for people in computer careers; it is also for people in a variety of professions who simply use computers for day-to-day tasks. For example, administrative professionals, clerical workers and business analysts all work constantly with these applications and often earn a specialist certification to increase their proficiency with the software. Specialists may be more efficient in using Microsoft applications, more marketable, and may earn more.
  • To complete the “Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Bundle” students have passed an exam in a minimum of three of the component applications of Microsoft Office. These include Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Access.
  • Students often earn the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Certification in the first year of related career academies. These career academies offer students additional certification opportunities.

Students are college and career ready when they have the knowledge, skills, and academic preparation needed to enroll and succeed in college credit-bearing courses within an associate or bachelor degree program without the need for remediation. Students need these same attributes and levels of achievement to enter and succeed in post-secondary workforce education or to enter a career path offering a living wage and future advancement.
